King Herod is in love with his daughter, Salome. After she fails to seduce John the Baptist, she dances for the King in order to secure the execution of John. At least, that seems to be the plot of this bewildering, sustained psychedelic free-for-all, a blizzard of gem colored lights, feathers, spankings and esoteric rituals designed to reduce narrative and structure, and free the voice of the actor. SALOME is the untamed creative work of Carmelo Bene, the enfant terrible of Italy’s avant-garde counter-culture!
