In the aftermath of war, Adem, a Bosnian coal miner, is swept by the optimism of industrialization and the sloganeering in Yugoslavia’s brief Stalinist period. His shock force brigade becomes the best in the country, maybe the world, and he finds himself unwittingly a major celebrity. Scenes of his strange life show a simple man and a bizarre and complicated world changing around him, until he is left behind by history. LIFE OF A SHOCK FORCE WORKER is Bosnian director’s Bato Cengic’s masterpiece—a bittersweet, hilarious, dark and impish story shot in stunning tableaux by the great cinematographer Karpo Godina. The film led to a decade long blacklisting for its director.
