It’s with great, pulsating pleasure that we announce NIGHT SWEATS: Spring Noir at The Clinton Street Theater! Big thanks to Mr. Butterfield for the excellent poster!
Things have gotten a little too friendly ‘round these parts lately, so we’re bringing a bit of sleaze back to the ol’ theater as the weather gets warmer. Always the contrarians, we are. Perverts, too.
Film noir is one of the oldest styles of cinema, typically referring to the 1930s & 40s era of ne’er-do-wells and its inspiration from German Expressionist cinematography. But the descriptor wasn’t widely used until the 1970s. Today, there are all sorts of sub-styles: neo-noir, tech-noir, etc. Still, it’s all noir to us.
We’ve selected eight films to screen through the first half of April, which we think are not only relevant, but a little trashy as well. Why? Jeez, you ask a lot of questions for a dame. Alright, here’s the rumpus. Just don’t tell nobody we told ya, capisce?
