Papa Cat makes a deal with the Devil at Christmastime to mortgage his mill in order to pay for his three kitty daughters’ marriages. When the deal goes bust, he’s left homeless. Wandering aimlessly, he discovers dragons and angels and a Kingdom of Sorrow.
THE CAT’S MILL (1993) is a beloved Latvian fairy-tale directed by genius animator Roze Stiebra, a rarely seen jewel of astoundingly dreamy psychedelic sequences, beautiful music and design. Included will also be some of Stiebra’s best short work animation, such as LITTLE RABBIT’S BATH (1979) and THE FAIRY-TALE ON THE THRESHOLD (1987). Subtitles by Church of Film.
