RED ARMY/PFLP: DECLARATION OF WORLD WAR (1971)

August 20, 2025 @ 7:00 PM 9:00 PM

$10

A snapshot in time of a resistance, and an alliance: The Japanese Red Army (JRA) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In Spring of 1971, Fusako Shigenobu moved the guerrilla Red Army from Japan to Lebanon to fight for the Palestinian resistance, and months later filmmakers Masao Adachi and Koji Wakamatsu followed her to record.

Part explosive agit-prop, part moody landscape document of a people living in anticipation of violence and revolution, RED ARMY/PFLP: DECLARATION OF WORLD WAR is perhaps the most notorious newsreel ever made. After its release and self-distribution, Masao Adachi abandoned film and joined the Red Army himself in Lebanon for 28 years.
