For his feature debut, twenty-four-year-old Louis Malle brought together a mesmerizing performance by Jeanne Moreau, evocative cinematography by Henri Decaë, and a now legendary jazz score by Miles Davis (Ascenseur pour l’échafaud).
Taking place over the course of one restless Paris night, Malle’s richly atmospheric crime thriller stars Moreau and Maurice Ronet as lovers whose plan to murder her husband (his boss) goes awry, setting off a chain of events that seals their fate.
Presented by KMHD, Portland’s jazz without boundaries radio station, a collaboration between Mt. Hood Community College and Oregon Public Broadcasting. Doors open at 6:00 PM for a special DJ set from KMHD Silver Linings host Bryson Wallace followed by an introduction of the film by KMHD Program Director Matt Fleeger before the screening at 7:00 PM.
