A Bohemian shepherd discovers the sacred golden fern in a nearby grove, and claims it for himself. He is haunted by the fern’s guardian, a mysterious and beautiful woodland divinity, who abandons her duty once she falls in love with him. When he is drafted for war, she sews a seed from the fern into a peasant’s shirt making the shepherd immune to harm—as long as he wears the shirt!
