Join us at this month's Death Talk to be inspired by intimate theater that reveals extraordinary, true experience. A Finished Heart is a solo performance of real conversations between a man and his husband in a time of great need, a universal story of compassion and devotion getting to the absolute essence of what it means to be committed to love. Crucial in our political climate, A Finished Heart celebrates our common humanity and strengthens solidarity with LGBT lives.

"Powerful, rich and raw -- absolutely mesmerizing from start to finish" -- Susan Kocen, Q Center.

A post-performance panel discussion with the audience will include author/performer, Eliott Cherry, and individuals from Compassion and Choices, OHSU, Dougy Center, Death Cafe and historic marriage equality campaigns.

SEUL_logo_blueMade possible in part through funding from the City of Portland, Oregon and SE Uplifts' Neighborhood Small Grant Program. Performance space donated by Clinton Street Theater.

A Finished Heart is a love story, Eliott's one-man, live performance of narrative, conversation and poetry with a musical score. The piece introduces Chris, who, in 2007, is Eliott's husband of sixteen years. At the age of 56, he is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has three months to live. As Elliot cares for him, Chris shares his experience of dying and we talk intimately about love, forgiveness, suffering, peace and meaning.

"Thank you, Eliott, for creating space within my heart and the hearts of many to give and receive love in ways unimagined...."

Mary Elizabeth Peterson, Hospice Chaplain, Portland, Oregon
