Showtimes

In 1968, Gunvor Nelson and Dorothy Wiley’s years-old, ignored short Schmeerguntz, a satirical montage blizzard of contemporary women’s lives, set off a storm that culminated with the protest of the Miss America Pageant that year. SECRET GARDENS is a series of shorts celebrating the women of American Underground Film, and their films whose immediate impact reverberated around the world!

Secret Gardens—Women in Underground Film

SECRET GARDENS is a series of shorts celebrating the women of American Underground Film, and their films whose immediate impact reverberated around the world! It’s a comic, subversive, visually stunning set of experimental works which, in the true fashion of the Underground Film movement, constitutes missives and diaries revealing the private world, the bodies, and the lives of women never seen before in cinema. Included will be Gunvor Nelson’s SCHMEERGUNTZ, MY NAME IS OONA, & TAKE OFF, Storm de Hirsch’s PEYOTE QUEEN, and much more!

Special Admission

$5-8 suggested; no one turned away for lack of funds.
