Nostalgic and very insightful

I had the pleasure of seeing this documentary during the Cinetopia film festival. The film shows an in-depth description of how the Highlights magazine is created and goes through how it has adapted to fit the times. I remember reading the magazine in my dentist office as well as getting a subscription later on and I can say it was very nostalgic. This film shows how something as simple as a children's magazine is crafted very meticulously and for the benefit of its readers. Anyone who enjoyed it during their childhood owes it to themselves to see the hard work and dedication put in to the final product.

A portrait of Highlights magazine following the creation of the cultural phenomenon’s 70th anniversary issue, from the first editorial meeting to its arrival in homes, and introducing the people who passionately produce the monthly publication for “the world’s most important people,”…children.

Along the way, a rich and tragic history is revealed, the state of childhood, technology, and education is explored, and the future of print media is questioned. Family-owned since its inception in 1946 and never containing a single advertisement, Highlights stands alone in the magazine publishing world and has become an American icon, with over a billion issues delivered to children worldwide.
