SUMMARY:DIFFERENT (1962) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Alfredo is a dancer\, and theater is his life! But he is troubled by forbidden impulses\, forbidden desires that drive him deep into the belly of a beatnik jazz club\, a den of iniquity where hepcats indulge in every vice imaginable. Can his stuffy family of straights pull him back from the brink of destruction? DIFFERENT is a truly remarkable and outstanding spectacle devised by Argentinian dancer Alfredo Alaria\, an explicitly gay musical that somehow passed the censors in Franco’s Spain. Full of gorgeous\, eye-popping set pieces and incredible dances\, its eccentricities truly test the limits of absurdity and subversion.

SUMMARY:THE LAST FARM IN THE VALLEY (1950) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:An idyllic Icelandic valley has been abandoned and left in ruins due to the threat of gruesome trolls that live in the mountains. All except one farm\, however\, which remains thanks to the possession of a magical ring that wards off trolls. The trolls plan to steal the ring\, but the family receives the assistance of the fairy spirits of the land. THE LAST FARM IN THE VALLEY is a stunning\, enchanting Icelandic film shot remarkably in color in 1950. Exceedingly popular\, it played so often in Iceland that the original tape soundtrack was unusable. However\, the original elements of this fairy masterpiece have since been restored!

SUMMARY:Mothlight NW Presents: Nathaniel Dorsky's Hours For Jerome in 16mm
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco-based filmmaker Nathaniel Dorsky has devoted the past sixty years to a body of cinematic work committed to images\, poetics\, and depictions of the sanctity and beauty of our natural and human worlds. Shot over the course of four years in 1966 to 1970\, Hours for Jerome (1982) is composed of a series of stanzas depicting Dorsky’s daily life in Manhattan and New Jersey’s Lake Owassa alongside his partner\, fellow filmmaker Jerome Hiler (for whom the film is named). Influenced by the work of John Ashbery and the Limbourg brothers\, Dorsky’s films distinguish him as a uniquely visual and emotive director\, marked by images of New England forests\, bustling scenes of the city\, and portrayals of light and shadows unlike any seen elsewhere on film. \n\n\n\nNever-digitized\, Hours for Jerome will be screened on 16mm\, providing a special opportunity to see the film. Alongside Hours for Jerome\, Dorsky’s three earliest and rarely-screened films will be played—Ingreen (1964)\, A Fall Trip Home (1964)\, and Summerwind (1965). A complimentary zine containing writings on the films will be available as well.

SUMMARY:A DANCE IN THE RAIN (1961) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Peter is a handsome and bitter young man carrying on a relationship with an older actress\, Marusa. Over drinks and cigarettes\, he cruelly strikes at her insecurities. They are both about to be swallowed by their frustrations and insecurities\, and a brighter future seems to be a dimmer hope every day. A DANCE IN THE RAIN is a jazzy existential masterpiece by Slovenian director Bostjan Hladnik\, who returned from Paris after working with Claude Chabrol\, and for the first time introduced the French New Wave to Yugoslavia. The stunning photography and brooding atmosphere were also a precursor and omen of the Black Wave cinema to come.
