SUMMARY:From Ground Zero
DESCRIPTION:Exclusive\, one night only screening at The Clinton Street Theater before the film opens nation wide. Proceeds from this event will benefit Palestine Red Crescent Society. \n\n\n\nPalestine’s official submission for the 2025 Academy Awards and an official selection at TIFF 2024\, this new documentary coordinated and funded by filmmaker Rashid Masharawi is a collection of revealing stories from 22 Palestinian filmmakers living through war\, who capture their lives in Gaza amidst war. \n\n\n\nUsing a blend of animation\, documentary\, and fiction\, they create a powerful testament to the steadfastness of the human spirit. This film serves as a remarkable reflection of how art can thrive even in the darkest times\, showcasing the enduring spirit and creativity that emerge amid ongoing devastation. \n\n\n\n“The filmmaking ingenuity on display is undoubtedly impressive\, but it’s self-reflexive too\, between the lo-fi digital quality of most shorts and the sense that the movie’s very texture is a commentary too… Many snippets of Gaza’s plight have made their way onto social media … but few of these fleeting clips have provided such an in-depth look at the lives of Gaza’s citizens. The psychological impact of their plight is made detailed and evident\, but so is their hope in the face of doom.” -Variety \n\n\n\n“… an unforgettable exhibition of the human spirit\, a memorial to the trauma and brutality of life under war\, and a collection of art that raises awareness and demands a better ending to this story than a sequel.” -RogerEbert.com \n\n\n\n \n Director: \n Year: \n Country: \n Runtime:

SUMMARY:MAGIC & ECSTASY - The Films of Luigi Di Gianni (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:In gloomy and gothic short work\, Neapolitan filmmaker Luigi di Gianni explored an ancient world of pagan rites colliding with medieval Catholicism\, witchcraft\, possession\, and cults\, all still continuing in central and southern Italy. As a world of capitalism and consumerism surrounds a forgotten and impoverished people\, they insist on an adherence to an old world of supernatural and superstition! \n\n\n\nMAGIC & ECSTASY will showcase the most celebrated of di Gianni’s works such as Magica Lucana (1958) and Grazia e Numeri (1962)\, as well as rare short works of fiction in an eye-opening and witchy set.

SUMMARY:Snow White (1916) with Live Harp & Viola Score
DESCRIPTION:Many know Disney’s classic animated film\, but few are aware that that a teenage Walt Disney growing up in Kansas City saw the original silent movie of the fairy tale\, and it was this 1916 silent that inspired him to make his own version.  \n\n\n\nLike all silent films\, it was made on flammable nitrate film stock and for many years was rumored to have been destroyed in a vault fire. But a single theatrical print was discovered in the Netherlands in 1992\, and a heroic restoration was performed by the George Eastman House film archive. In 2016\, Northwest Film Forum commissioned harpist-composer Leslie McMichael to create a new score\, which she’s now bringing to The Clinton Street Theater!  \n\n\n\nMcMichael will perform live on the concert harp for the 63-minute film\, and her original score also features her sister Barbara McMichael on viola. Come see this classic film in a fun\, new way.

SUMMARY:THE DEMON (1963) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:In a small village in southern Italy\, in modern times\, a young woman named Puri begins working in the dark arts to enchant a man who is promised to another. As she travels down the road to perdition\, the village becomes increasingly alarmed that they have a witch in their midst. \n\n\n\nFellini screenwriter Brunello Rondi\, fresh off the success of 8 1/2\, directed this earthy\, dark\, and highly sophisticated look at magic and superstition in Italy\, with a gritty and creepy documentary feel\, incredible high contrast photography\, and a deft ability to dip from reality into surreality.
