SUMMARY:That's Camp!
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 6pm\, show at 7pm. \n\n\n\n\nBjork wearing a swan dress to the Oscars and birthing an egg purse on the red carpet: That’s Camp! Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford brandishing a wire hanger: That’s Camp! Stumbling upon chartreuse street-puke and declaring it “brat summer:” That’s Camp! Camp is all around us—it’s Celine’s backwards tux\, it’s PeeWee Herman’s talking blue sofa\, it’s painting nail polish over the pinky toe to blend in with the stiletto from which it has escaped. Camp is ironic\, it’s over-the-top; it’s subversive and unhinged\, but in a glamorous way. Camp is queer culture. \n\n\n\nJoin your hosts Ry Bred & Tomboy for a night of high camp\, featuring performances from Portland’s crème-de-la-camp: Anyanka\, Harlow Quinzel\, Heavy Cream\, Khadijah Diamond\, Lyta Blunt\, Umbruh\, Duchess and La Mama Dora.

Questions will be poised from a progressive/left-wing angle and cover a wide range of topics. Sexism\, racism\, homophobia and other bigoted views will not be tolerated. Any candidates or audience members espousing such views will immediately be removed from the event. \n\n\n\nThe theater does not have a parking lot and Clinton St. is closed to vehicular traffic between SE 26th and 25th. SUMMARY:BEYOND GOOD & EVIL (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:In the 1880s\, Friedrich Nietzsche leaves his family\, teaching\, and friends\, forming a menage-a-trois commune with his lovers Lou Andreas-Salomé and Paul Rée. The three of them vow to live beyond moral codes; but their entanglement is tragic and complicated. Addicted to opium and going mad from syphilis\, Nietzsche drifts apart\, through Italy\, and toward oblivion. \n\n\n\nBEYOND GOOD & EVIL is Liliana Cavani’s most complete vision\, an epic of debauchery and philosophy\, perversion and politics\, delirium and destruction. (CW: sexual violence)

SUMMARY:Local Double Feature: Houndsville and The Foreground
DESCRIPTION:A showcase of two new local films! \n\n\n\nHOUNDSVILLE (2024) screens first—an absurdist parable of debauchery\, hard-boiled crime and good old fashioned puppy lovin’. Alcoholic has-been dog detective Klaus Haund and his will-they-won’t-they sweetheart Maus Haund traverse the surrealist psychedelia of the once great City of Hounds in a fevered quest to retrieve huckleberry antidote and dismantle an autocratic raccoon regime.  \n\n\n\nFilmed entirely on Super 8 and complete with a glittering display of papier-mâché costumage and live musical performances. Created by Amanda Berlind and Austin Stolz. \n\n\n\nFollowed by THE FOREGROUND (2024)—following the deterioration of a struggling film project\, its unmoored director\, Ty\, embarks on a trip to visit old acquaintances and get a change of scenery. Teetering between meditation and voyeurism\, the film closely follows Ty as he explores the mundane moments between creative death and rebirth. Lingering shots of daily rituals interspersed with ever-changing scenery and companions create a dreamlike quality that bends time as well as genre. Dramatic\, fantastical\, stark\, and experimental\, director Ty Jacob’s premiere feature film is a worthy addition to the slow cinema canon exploring creativity’s endless cycle of heartbreak and repair.
