SUMMARY:Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
DESCRIPTION:Immediately following Hunter Thompson’s death in 2005\, a near spontaneous and unhinged wake was staged at the Clinton St. Theater. Whiskey and beer flowed\, the audience screeched\, and the host almost fell off the stage. Films were shown\, words were read and a gonzo spirit was much celebrated. \n\n\n\nIn that spirit\, come and celebrate the return of the weird and wild birthday celebration for famed gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson at the CST\, as we raise a glass to what would have been his 88th trip around the sun. \n\n\n\nFeaturing Terry Gilliam’s psychedelic nightmare adaptation\, a vintage documentary about Hunter in the 1980s\, along with a host of surprises and tributes. \n\n\n\nBuy the ticket. Take the ride. \n\n\n\nRes Ipsa Loquitur! \n\n\n\nHosted by Aaron Colter and Greg Hamilton. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Terry Gilliam\n Year: 1998\n Country: USA\n Runtime: 118 minutes

SUMMARY:QUILOMBO (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:In 17th century Brazil\, escaped slaves flee to the hills and form their own city state\, Quilombo dos Palmares. Ganga Zumba becomes the President of this visionary\, democratic society. But to maintain their enchanted community\, they must fight back their Portuguese oppressors who seek to enslave them again. Carlos Diegues’s QUILOMBO is based on real history\, but explodes with mysticism\, magic realism\, and Afrofuturism\, in brilliant popping colors\, all brought together by a brilliant soundtrack by Gilberto Gil. It’s a psychedelic epic.

SUMMARY:YEAR 01 (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Armed only with the slogan “Quit Everything\,” the people of France walk out of their jobs—and never return. Labor and money are abolished. Production stops. Consumption stops. Markets stop. Governments stop. Now people work only to fulfill their needs\, and use only what they need. Consumer goods are museum pieces\, the earth is a common land and garden\, and wage labor is a barbaric\, faintly remembered past. Somewhere\, counter-revolutionaries gather stacks of money\, now useless paper\, hoping one day it will again be charged with significance and elevate them to the status of lords. This is a report from the first year of a liberated world! Jacques Doillon’s YEAR 01 (with contributing pieces by Left Bank luminaries Alain Resnais and Jean Rouch) is a serio-comic Utopia\, a series of imaginative sketches based on the philosophies behind the tumult of May ’68 and the Situationist International. Imagine a future!

SUMMARY:The Last Class
DESCRIPTION:The Last Class is a nuanced and deeply personal portrait of master educator Robert Reich teaching his final course and reflecting on a period of immense transformation\, personally and globally. It is a love letter to education. The former Secretary of Labor might be famous for his public service\, best-selling books\, and viral social media posts\, but he always considered teaching his true calling. Now\, after over 40 years and an extraordinary 40\,000 students\, Reich is preparing for his last class.  \n\n\n\nOver the course of the film\, Reich confronts the impending finality\, and his own aging\, with increasing candor\, introspection\, and\, ultimately\, emotion. He displays a rawness of feeling he has never shared publicly before. Drawing on his lifetime in politics\, he uses his class\, “Wealth and Poverty\,” to offer us all a deeper look at why inequalities of income and wealth have widened significantly since the late 1970s\, and why this poses dangerous risks to our society.  \n\n\n\nOne thousand students fill the biggest lecture hall on the UC Berkeley campus\, the last class to receive Reich’s wisdom and exhortations not to accept that the world has to stay the way it is. His belief in the next generation’s ability to take on the fight is inspiring.
