SUMMARY:THE FEATHER FAIRY (1984) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Mother Winter saves a young boy from her cousin\, Death\, and raises him as her immortal child. However\, consumed by curiosity and desiring love\, the young boy renounces his immortality to become human again! Banned from filmmaking for a decade\, Juraj Jakubisko’s reputation grew as film fanatics whispered about a legendary “Slovakian Fellini.” Jakubisko proudly endorsed the mantle with a glorious return to form and film\, THE FEATHER FAIRY—even casting Fellini’s wife\, Giullieta Massina (La Strada\, Juliet of the Spirits) in the title role! \n\n\n\nA wondrous\, delirious adaptation of the Brother’s Grimm tale Mother Hulda\, Jakubisko’s camera drifts from earth to heaven and spins its way into beautiful carnivalesque folk montages in a joyous celebration of what it means to be human!

SUMMARY:THE MANNEQUIN IN RED (1958) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:The Hillman Detective Agency is hot on the trail of a blackmailing model\, but the case takes a twist when she ends up with a knife in her back. In fact\, there are a lot of weird happenings and strange murders going on at La Femme fashion house\, which may have something to do with its imperious matron and her fortune. \n\n\n\nArne Mattsson’s THE MANNEQUIN IN RED seems on paper like a conventional thriller\, but its garish\, over the top art production\, ostentatious camerawork\, homoerotic subtexts and creepy thrills went way beyond its trappings. So far\, in fact\, that it won the admiration of Alfred Hitchcock\, and may have been the model for Mario Bava in creating the giallo film.

SUMMARY:Blood and Black Lace
DESCRIPTION:One of the first and most influential giallo films\, Mario Bava 1964’s visual treat centers on the Cristiana Haute Couture fashion house\, where models and their boyfriends excel at the art of backstabbing\, blackmail\, and snorting cocaine. That is\, until a faceless maniac embarks on a mission of death. \n\n\n\nCombining elements of contemporary West German murder mystery films with the lurid juxtaposition of eroticism and violence from popular pulp novels at the time\, Bava created a new sub-genre that would soon take the world by storm. With a score from the prolific Carlo Rustichelli and vivid technicolor shots from Ubaldo Terzano\, the result is a glorious\, yet disturbing piece of pop art trash.Screened in Italian with English subtitles. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Mario Bava\n Year: 1964\n Country: Italy\n Runtime: 88 minutes
