SUMMARY:Wonders of the Unseen World: A Night of Stag Films on 16mm
DESCRIPTION:21+ \n\n\n\n\nPickle your peter with the Forty Drop Few and Astral Projections\, and come for an evening of old time music and early 1900s stag films projected on 16mm. The film selection\, which comes from the Nyback Archive\, includes some incredibly rare films that can’t be seen in any other way. \n\n\n\nAs a collector of antique smut\, I was thrilled to find out about Ioana and Garrett’s collection of early 1900s stag reels. This event is an absolute DELIGHT for me not only because I’m obsessed with antique porn\, but also because I get to help choose which stag films were showing AND I get to play music for you all while we’re watching them. \n\n\n\nAs soon as photography and videography were invented\, they were used to make pornography. The making and distribution of pornographic materials was completely illegal due to the Comstock Act of 1873 and these obscenity restrictions were not relaxed until 1957. These laws of course did not slow down the production of porn by much\, folks were just careful with their distribution. The films were mostly viewed at brothels and men’s stag parties. The majority of the women who acted and modeled for films and photos were sex workers who were found through brothels.  \n\n\n\nI find antique pornography beautiful\, interesting\, educational\, and a wonderful eye-opening connection between the past and the present. I am always showing it and have given a few presentations on it at PCC. People are too frequently shocked that it can be just a crazy as pornography today. They always say “they were doing that back then???” Of course they were! They were just as intense\, just as freaky\, just as weird\, and also unfortunately just as evil as we are today. \n\n\n\nBut we will only be showing the good stuff! So please join us for an evening of beautiful\, freaky\, weird\, sexy\, shocking old porn from the early 1900s! And also\, wouldn’t it be great for Ioana and Garrett to be able to digitally transfer their entire collection of stag reels so that we can perhaps create an online archive of our very own? Do you have ideas for funding a project like that? Do you want to fund a project like that? If so please hit me up!  \n\n\n\nCandle Sue \n\n\n\n21 + only \, I.D. will be checked at the door for admission.

SUMMARY:Careful
DESCRIPTION:Portland premiere of the new 4k restoration! \n\n\n\nGuy Maddin’s early masterpiece takes place in a 19th-century Alpine village where the wary residents—adult\, child and animal—must speak softly and tread lightly lest they cause an avalanche. But sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression\, setting off incestuous love triangles and quadrangles with deadly consequences. Bathed in lurid\, luminescent tints resembling a vintage melodrama from another planet—something that could only emerge from the singular mind of Maddin. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Guy Maddin\n Year: 1992\n Country: Canada\n Runtime: 100 minutes

DESCRIPTION:Part of the Hanabi Film Festival 2026. Limited festival passes available while supplies last. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 8:30 PM; film at 9:00 PM. \n\n\n\nWhen thief Birdey is caught stealing from a book shop by salesgirl Umeko\, the two embark on an unusual\, erotic adventure. \n\n\n\nDirected by Japanese New Wave legend Nagisa Ōshima (Merry Christmas\, Mr. Lawrence) and co-written by close collaborator Mamoru Sasaki (Death by Hanging)\, the film sharply divided critics on its release and continues to perplex audiences today. The New York Times said the film had “an air of having been produced only for purposes of demonstration\,” while the Guardian praised it as “an explosive agitprop movie equating sexual liberation with revolution.” \n\n\n\nSwitching between color and black and white\, coherent plot and pure vibes\, Ōshima pushed the boundaries of the 1960s experimental\, left-wing movement. Commonly referred to as “the Japanese Godard\,” Ōshima said he preferred that Jean-Luc Godard be called “the French Ōshima.” \n\n\n\nScreened in Japanese with English subtitles. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Nagisa Ōshima\n Year: 1969\n Country: Japan\n Runtime: 92 minutes
