SUMMARY:THE MANNEQUIN IN RED (1958) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:The Hillman Detective Agency is hot on the trail of a blackmailing model\, but the case takes a twist when she ends up with a knife in her back. In fact\, there are a lot of weird happenings and strange murders going on at La Femme fashion house\, which may have something to do with its imperious matron and her fortune. \n\n\n\nArne Mattsson’s THE MANNEQUIN IN RED seems on paper like a conventional thriller\, but its garish\, over the top art production\, ostentatious camerawork\, homoerotic subtexts and creepy thrills went way beyond its trappings. So far\, in fact\, that it won the admiration of Alfred Hitchcock\, and may have been the model for Mario Bava in creating the giallo film.

SUMMARY:THE BIRTH OF HORROR: A Scary Collection of Early Film Horror (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:A very special presentation! Born out of novelties\, toys\, and camera tricks\, early filmmakers formulated the first horror cinema in the nickelodeons. THE BIRTH OF HORROR presents a global survey of monsters\, goblins and things that go bump in the night\, from the first screen conception of Frankenstein\, to early home invasions and escaped psychos! \n\n\n\nThese films are presented with atmospheric original soundtracks by Seattle’s Hexafoils—meticulously constructed horrorscapes crafted from synthesizers and foley design. A project years in the making!

SUMMARY:SPIDER (1992) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Vita agrees to model as the Virgin Mary for a sinister avant-garde painter. Under his creepy gaze\, her subconscious bursts forth all sorts of visions and horrors\, including terrifying visions of spiders! \n\n\n\nSPIDER is a sumptuously surreal\, highly stylized Latvian monster movie\, with incredible practical effects\, tons of goo\, and all weirdly dressed up as a psychosexual art film. Bizarre\, impressive and disturbing on an epic scale! \n\n\n\n(CW Sexual Violence)

SUMMARY:MISTER DESIGNER (1989) (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Platon Andreyevich\, an ingenious artist and designer\, had at one time led the avant-garde with a treatise on how the artist might perfect the imperfect creations of the gods. Now he seems to be slipping into madness. He is obsessed with using models to create lifelike dolls\, and haunted by strange memories. One day he is approached by a wealthy client to design a house for his wife. But the man’s wife seems strangely familiar—is she one of Platon’s former models\, or one of his dolls? \n\n\n\nOleg Teptsov’s MISTER DESIGNER is a lavish gothic tale based on a story by Alexander Grin (Morgiana) that builds towards a spiraling\, hallucinatory climax of horror and psychedelic lunacy. Also\, the soundtrack is a killer!

SUMMARY:25 Cats from Qatar
DESCRIPTION:Qatar is one of the world’s wealthiest nations\, and its rapid growth is powered by migrant workers who make 89% of the population. But underneath the luxurious surface lies an overwhelming street cat population where disease is rampant\, the heat is extreme\, and expats are burdened to help the struggling felines.  \n\n\n\nWhen an American flight attendant and cat cafe owner becomes aware of the crisis\, she hatches a plan to fly 25 cats to Milwaukee\, where her cat cafe provides a pipeline for adoption.  \n\n\n\nPresenting a microcosm of a global crisis\, the film asks searching questions about animal welfare\, all within a ticking-clock narrative about the nuts and bolts of a rescue mission. It is both an urgent wake-up call and a heartwarming story of overcoming international barriers for a common goal. \n\n\n\nPart of the FRESH PRODUCE series\, a program that finds new and compelling independent cinema from the festival circuit and brings those films to Portland audiences. Hosted by Portland film curator Greg Hamilton. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Mye Hoang\n Year: 2025\n Country: United States\n Runtime: 95 minutes

DESCRIPTION:Immediately following Hunter Thompson’s death in 2005\, a near spontaneous and unhinged wake was staged at the Clinton St. Theater. Thompson at the CST\, as we raise a glass to what would have been his 88th trip around the sun. \n\n\n\nFeaturing Terry Gilliam’s psychedelic nightmare adaptation\, a vintage documentary about Hunter in the 1980s\, along with a host of surprises and tributes. \n\n\n\nBuy the ticket. Take the ride. \n\n\n\nRes Ipsa Loquitur! \n\n\n\nHosted by Aaron Colter and Greg Hamilton. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Terry Gilliam\n Year: 1998\n Country: USA\n Runtime: 118 minutes
