SUMMARY:WILLOW SPRINGS (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:Shot on a shoestring budget in the middle of the Californian desert\, Werner Schroeter’s American outing follows in a dreamlike trance the murderous North Star Cult\, a small commune of women who have retreated from society and into a string of abandoned buildings along the highway. There they lure men in and sacrifice them. \n\n\n\nWith entrancing desert photography\, and a blend of old pop and blues mixing indiscriminately with opera records\, WILLOW SPRINGS is a haunting\, bizarre\, morbid and darkly comical piece of German New Cinema from one of the movement’s most provocative queer icons. \n\n\n\n \n Director: Werner Schroeter\n Year: 1973\n Country: USA\, Germany\n Runtime: 78 minutes

SUMMARY:SATANIK (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:A disfigured chemist\, Marny Bannister\, kills to get a miracle drug that transforms her into a beautiful young woman. And the killing doesn’t stop as she makes her way through the criminal underworld\, with the police hot on her trail! \n\n\n\nSATANIK is a lurid and wildly entertaining take on the Italian fumetti neri\, a Dr. Jekyl and Ms. Hyde with eye-popping costuming and shameless sex and violence.  \n\n\n\n \n Director: Piero Vivarelli\n Year: 1968\n Country: Italy\, Spain\n Runtime: 86 minutes

SUMMARY:Underground Women on 16mm
DESCRIPTION:Women have been making films for as long as film has existed – in fact\, the nascent film industry of the early 20th century was\, in large part\, built by women for women. Of course\, as the profit potential (and\, if I may\, the propaganda potential) increased\, men quickly came to dominate cinema and the landscape solidified to what it is now. However! The 16mm format falls at a very interesting juncture of accessibility and production value\, and so this is where you’ll find some of the most original and truly underground works of art to ever be committed to celluloid. \n\n\n\nJoin archivists Ioana and Garrett of Astral Projections for an evening of subversive feminine film from throughout the 20th century\, featuring selections from the Nyback Archive. You’ll see a documentary about women in experimental film\, an interview with the inimitable gardener Ruth Stout\, a satirical short about labor\, and so much more!

SUMMARY:THE BLIND OWL (Church of Film)
DESCRIPTION:H.\, an immigrant in Paris\, takes a job as a projectionist in a run down movie theater. From the projection booth\, he witnesses a film in which a beautiful dancer seems to be looking right at him\, a vision that leads to love\, madness\, and possibly murder. \n\n\n\nTHE BLIND OWL is Chilean Surrealist Raul Ruiz’s spinning of Iranian author Sadegh Hedayat’s beloved 1937 novella through dreams and movies\, full of ghastly and sublime images. It’s a ghostly reflection on modern mythology\, Orientalism\, and editing as an act of destruction\, considered one of the director’s finest achievements.  \n\n\n\n \n Director: Raúl Ruiz\n Year: 1987\n Country: France\, Switzerland\n Runtime: 105 minutes
